This year, we are supporting three charities as a school: the East Yorkshire Foodbank, Young Minds and Christian Aid.
On Monday, Richard Newby from the East Yorkshire Foodbank came to talk to us during Worship about the work of the Foodbank. He gave us lots of information about the charity. We found out that the Foodbank has given food to 1500 people in the last six months (900 adults and 600 children). We learned that you can donate food to the Foodbank at Tesco in Beverley. People who work for the charity check that the food is in date and then pack it in boxes to give to people who are in need. We found out that people are given a special voucher to show that they can receive food from the foodbank.
Richard showed us the foods that would be put in an emergency food parcel. Foods included boxes of cereal and lots of different tinned foods like fruit and soup.
Richard thanked us for the donations of food we had given at our Harvest Service at St Mary’s Church. He said that the foodbank wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for generous people like us.
We are going to be doing different things throughout the year to raise awareness of the foodbank and to try and get lots of people in our community to support the charity.
